Croft Vintage Port 2003 - Viticulture Year and Harvest Notes: The winter before the 2003 harvest was very wet. Flowering occurred in a clean, warm weather in late May, with one of the best weather conditions in living memory. The first two weeks of August had the intense summer heat that often precedes a great Vintage Port. The second half of August was cooler and there were two days of rain. The harvest in September was hot and dry and the yields were balanced for all noble grape varieties, ensuring balanced and complex wines. Oenologist' reports stressed the very intense color and tannins abundance released by the grape's skins during fermentation, as well as the powerful fruitiness of youthful wines.
